A 42-year-old man has been charged with second-degree murder after a woman was found dead inside an east-end apartment building early Saturday morning, police confirm.

Officers found the deceased woman – identified Saturday evening as 28-year-old Natasha Perez – in an apartment on Oak Street near Gerrard Street and the Don Valley Parkway at around 5:50 a.m.

Though the official cause of death has not been determined, police say Perez was found suffering from obvious signs of trauma.

The male suspect was taken into custody at the scene after making “incriminating comments” to a 911 operator, according to Det. Sgt. Gary Giroux.

“He made certain utterances with regards to what happened and when the police arrived he was taken into custody without incident,” Giroux told CP24 at the scene. “Those comments were all recorded and of course will be entered into evidence.”

The relationship between the suspect and the victim is not known.

Brian Harte, 42, of Toronto has been charged with second-degree murder, police said Saturday evening.

He is scheduled to make a court appearance April 7.
