Police in Hamilton are investigating following a shooting that left a man dead Thursday afternoon.

It happened in Upper Wellington Street and Brucedale Avenue area shortly before 4:30 p.m.

According to police, officers arrived to find the man, who is in his 40s, suffering from life-threatening injuries.

He was rushed to hospital by paramedics where he was later pronounced dead.

“Detectives are in the process of notifying next of kin and no further details regarding the victim are being released at this time,” police said in a release issued Thursday night.

The circumstances surrounding the shooting were not immediately clear. No other injuries have been reported.

Police are expected to be at the scene throughout the night investigating.

“Area residents can also expect police officers to be present canvassing the surrounding area,” the release said.
