Toronto police are investigating after a man was fatally struck by a vehicle during Thursday morning's commute.

The man, who is in his 50's, died in hospital after he was hit by a car on Sheppard Avenue, just west of Kennedy Road, at about 7:55 a.m.

Traffic services Const. Clint Stibbe said investigators do not know the man's identity because he was not carrying identification.

Initially, police were told by a witness that the injured man was ejected from the car, but investigators later determined that he was a pedestrian who was hit by the vehicle.

Stibbe said the man was without vital signs at the scene but he was revived by paramedics and then transported to a hospital, where he later died.

Sheppard Avenue was closed between Kennedy Road and Allanford Road until 2 p.m.

Fall has been a dangerous season for pedestrians, with several fatalities and serious injuries reported in the GTA in November and December.
