A man is dead after being run over by his own van Monday afternoon in what police are calling a terrible accident.
It happened at a home on Ewart Avenue, southeast of Eglinton Avenue and Keele Street.
According to police, officers responded to reports that a person had become trapped between a vehicle and a fence after falling out of the vehicle shortly after 5 p.m.
The man, believed to be in his 60s, was pronounced dead at the scene. His family has been notified.
Police said it appears that the man fell out of the van as he was trying to back up with vehicle while the door was open.
The area is currently closed as police continue to investigate.
One area resident said the man’s death would be a “great loss” to the neighbourhood.
“He’s a great man,” neighbour Arthur Polyzois told CP24.
“I still cannot believe it. We were talking this morning – I was talking to him yesterday. We’re all going to miss him. He’s the neighbourhood.”
