A 31-year-old man has been pronounced dead in hospital after he was struck by a vehicle in the city’s west end Saturday morning, police say.

Paramedics were called to the scene at St. Clair Avenue West and Symes Road, west of Keele Street, shortly before 5 a.m. When they arrived they found the man without vital signs.

Police say he was trying to cross the road eastbound on St. Clair Avenue when he was struck by a vehicle.

Toronto police initially said the man had died. However paramedics were able to revive him en route to hospital, where he died a short time later.

The driver of the vehicle did not remain at the scene, police said.

Investigators say a suspect vehicle has been located in the west end and expect an arrest will be made.
