Toronto police have identified a man who was beaten to death in the city's west end early Saturday morning as 40-year-old Jorge Interiano.

The assault occurred near on Concord Avenue, near Bloor Street and Ossington Avenue, at around 2:30 a.m.

Paramedics say Interiano was found without vital signs and was rushed to a trauma centre, where he later died from his injuries.

According to investigators, two male suspects, believed to be in their late teens or early 20s, were seen fleeing the area.

Det. Shannon Dawson told CP24 Sunday that victim was visiting local establishments in the area when the attack occurred.

"As far as everyone in the neighbourhood is telling us, he seems to be an easy-going likeable gentleman," she said.

According to investigators, no weapons were used in the assault and Interiano died from serious head injuries.

The police service's homicide unit is now investigating and officers have obtained some security footage.

Some witnesses have been located and are cooperating with police but police say they believe there are more witnesses that have not yet come forward.

Ralph Barber, who worked at the LCBO at Bloor Street and Ossington Avenue for several years, said he would often see Interiano at the store.

"He was a great guy," Barber said. "It is very sad this happened."

Interiano was also a regular at an area bike shop, where he would help out staff from time to time, Barber said.

"Everybody in the neighbourhood knew him. No one has got a bad word to say about him," he said.

“I was just over at the bike shop and some people that were there were talking about getting a hold of police or someone to give this guy maybe a proper burial at least or do something for him because he has no family in the city."
