A man has been charged with attempted murder and aggravated assault after two men were stabbed at a Toronto Community Housing complex Sunday afternoon.

Police received a call about a fight involving three males at 220 Oak Street in the Gerrard and River streets area at around 12:30 p.m.

When they arrived they found two males suffering from stab wounds and the third man had fled the scene, police said.

One of the victims had been stabbed six or seven times and was found without vital signs, EMS said. The other was stabbed once and sustained serious injuries.

“There was a fight I don’t know what started it. We’re in the process of investigating right now,” Sgt. Dan Powell told CP24.

One of the victims is believed to be in his 30s and the other is in his 40s, police said.

Shortly after the victims were transported to hospital, police located the suspect on the 17th floor of the building and he was taken into custody.

Police said a small, edged weapon was also located.

Yellow police tape cordoned off two areas at the scene as police investigated – a bench outside the building and the lobby area inside the building.

It’s not clear if the victims or the suspect live at the building, Powell said.

Police are interviewing witnesses and will be canvassing the building, as well as examining security camera footage, he said.

“There are cameras on the walls so we’re hoping there are images that can be obtained from the building,” Powell said.

Both victims are in hospital in stable condition, police said Sunday night.

Anyone with information about the suspect is being asked to contact police.
