A man discovered dead in a van in Markham Tuesday has been identified as the father of a teen found murdered in Scarborough earlier this month.

Eighteen-year-old Simone ‘Shanni’ Reid was found dead in an apartment on Sheppard Avenue, just west of Warden Avenue, on Nov. 13.

Her death has been ruled a homicide. Details on the cause of death, however, have not yet been released.

At the time, police said they were looking to speak with Reid’s father to notify him of his daughter’s death.

"We believe her father would have been the last person or one of the last people that was with her in the apartment during the evening hours," Toronto police Sgt. Susan Gomes said.

On Tuesday, York Regional Police located a deceased man in a minivan in the area of Kennedy and Eglin Mills roads in Markham.

Police confirmed Thursday night that the body found was that of 49-year-old Winston 'Paul' Reid, Simone’s father.

While a post-mortem examination has been completed, the cause of death remains undetermined, Toronto police Const. Jenifferjit Sidhu told CP24.

More information on the investigation is likely to be released Friday morning.
