A 40-year-old man is in hospital with life-threatening injuries after being shot in Peterborough late Monday afternoon.

Police were called to an apartment complex on Hunter Street East for a disturbance at 5:45 p.m.

At the scene, police located the victim. According to police, the victim became involved in an altercation with three or four other male suspects inside a unit in the building.

The man was subsequently shot by one of the suspects in a second-floor hallway.

He was transported to Peterborough Regional Health Centre before being airlifted to St. Michael's Hospital in Toronto.

Police are currently seeking the male suspects who they say may have fled the scene in an older model, dark-coloured vehicle.
