Two people in their 60s were taken to hospital with serious injuries after being pulled from a fire in the city’s west end Friday.

The two-alarm fire broke out on the 11th floor of a highrise building on Humber Boulevard near Weston Road around 11:45 a.m., Toronto Fire Services said.

“This was a quick stop of what was a very aggressive fire,” District Chief Randy Smith told CP24 at the scene. “It had blown out the door of the balcony and had gone out the other door into the hallway of the apartment, so it was a pretty intense fire.”

Viewer pictures sent to CP24 showed smoke billowing from an apartment building. A scorched balcony was also visible from the ground after the fire was put out.

Firefighters located the male victim near the balcony door. He was rushed to hospital with serious burns.

Smith said the woman was found just outside the apartment. She was also taken to hospital with serious injuries, EMS said.

Neither are believed to be in life-threatening condition, Smith said.

While the fire was contained to a single apartment, firefighters said there was some water and smoke damage to other units. The cause of the fire has not yet been determined.
