A man in his 40s believed to be a Hydro One worker was rushed to hospital via emergency run after a reported electrocution in the city’s downtown core Saturday morning.

According to police, the man was doing some electrical work at a Hydro One facility on Wellington Street near John Street when he was shocked at around 10:30 a.m.

Firefighters responding to the scene then found the man dangling from a harness about 15 feet up and called in the tactical rescue team to help extricate him.

"One we brought him to the ground he was conscious and was responding slightly, though not always appropriately." Acting District Chief Colin Giffin told CP24. "The paramedics then did a fabulous job of treatment at the scene and got him off to hospital. He was conscious, which is a good sign, but electrocutions are serious injuries."

The man is in stable, non life-threatening condition at Sunnybrook Hospital, where he is being treated for severe burns on his hand.

The Ministry of Labour will likely be called in to investigate, according to Giffin.
