A missing senior has been found dead hours after police expanded their search for the man in Scarborough.

Jayaratnam Punnusamy, an 84-year-old man with serious health issues, went missing on May 22. He was last spotted in the Midland and Lawrence avenues area at around 5:30 a.m. that day.

Police confirmed his body was found about 500 metres from his home at around 10 a.m. Tuesday near some railway tracks. He likely died from being outside without care for days, officials told CP24.

According to police, Punnusamy has a range of health issues that made him vulnerable, including the onset of dementia, high blood pressure and diabetes. Police said he walked with a distinctive shuffle and suffered from hip and knee problems.

Police had set up a command post Tuesday in a hydro field on the west side of Midland Avenue, north of Romulus Drive to search for the missing man.
