York Regional Police say a 24-year-old man is facing murder charges after two teens were shot to death in Richmond Hill last January.

The deadly incident occurred at around midnight on January 8, 2014 near Yonge Street and Centre Street.

Police discovered three people suffering from gunshot wounds inside a vehicle located at 172 Centre Street East and one victim, 16-year-old Brenda Pathammavong, was pronounced dead at the scene. Two men who had also been shot were rushed to hospital and one of the male victims, 18-year-old Premier Hoang, later died from his injuries.

Police previously said that they believed the incident was drug-related and that the victims and the assailant may have known each other.

York Regional Police say Timothy Doug-Hyun, a 24-year-old Mississauga resident, has now been charged with two counts of first-degree murder and one count of attempted murder in connection with the case.

He is scheduled to appear in the Ontario Court of Justice in Newmarket on Wednesday.
