Toronto police say additional charges will be laid against a personal support worker accused of sexually assaulting a 95-year-old man with Alzheimer’s disease in his East York home.

Police previously charged 61-year-old Danilo Alcala with one count of sexual assault after the elderly man’s family came forward to police with allegations of abuse last week.

On Tuesday, police confirmed that six new charges, including three counts of sexual assault and three counts of sexual exploitation of a person with a disability, will be laid against the health care worker.

Det. Sgt. Jim Gotell told CP24 that the charges stem from new evidence brought forward by the victim’s family.

"We were contacted by the family of the original victim over the course of the weekend who said that they had discovered additional evidence that other alleged offences had taken place," Gottell said Tuesday.

"We met with the family yesterday and have reviewed the evidence and it substantiates the allegations that they’ve made to us."

Alcala was scheduled to appear in court for a bail hearing at College Park Tuesday but that was adjourned until July 27 at 10 a.m.

Since last week's arrest, Gottell said another member of the public has come forward with allegations against Alcala.

"No charges have been laid in relation to this allegation but we are continuing to investigate," he added.

Alcala's lawyer, Amanda Ross, declined to comment Monday.

Spectrum Health Care previously confirmed that Alcala was an employee of the company and said they would be conducting their own investigation into the allegations.

“As a provider of community services for over 25 years, Spectrum Health Care is taking this very seriously," the company said in a written statement issued to CTV last week.

"We are cooperating fully with the Toronto Police at Division 54 and other regulatory authorities.”

Victim Services has helped find the elderly man new personal support workers and police say he is doing "well."
