A new high-tech screen that displays up-to-the-minute public transit information has been installed inside city hall as part of a one-year pilot project.

Deputy Mayor Denzil Minnan-Wong unveiled the screen on Monday morning along with another that displays an interactive guide and directory of city hall.

The two screens cost $5,000 each and will eventually be installed at other major city-owned buildings if the pilot project is deemed successful.

“Surprisingly enough this is the first time any city hall in Canada has had this equipment,” Minnan-Wong said. “Together these two screens are a big step in modernizing city hall and improving accessibility for residents and visitors.”

The transit screen will allow visitors to city hall to plan their trip to their next destination and view up-to-the-second estimates on the arrival of the next streetcar, bus or subway. The screens will also display information about the availability of car-sharing services and Bike Share Toronto bicycles.

Meanwhile, the other screen will include information about committee meetings, city hall offices and other facilities that visitors may be looking for.

Speaking with CP24 after the unveiling, Minnan-Wong said the hope is that the screens work together to make city hall more visitor friendly.
