It is bound to be a busy day in Toronto with the final council meeting of this term resuming at city hall and Fan Expo kicking off at the Metro Toronto Convention Centre. Here is a look at everything else going around on around the GTA today:

News:

Two women are expected to appear in a Brampton court today after they allegedly consumed a significant amount of alcohol aboard a Sunwing flight bound for Cuba, lit up a cigarette in a bathroom and then proceeded to get into a physical altercation with each other and make a threat against the aircraft.

Rob Ford is gaining ground on John Tory in the race for mayor while Olivia Chow has fallen out of the top two for the first time since announcing her candidacy, according to a new poll by Forum Research. The random telephone poll of 1,945 Torontonians determined that Tory would get 36 per cent of the vote in a three-way race with Ford at 31 per cent and Chow at 26 per cent. Seven per cent of respondents said they were undecided.

Mayor Rob Ford showed up to a high school football practice inebriated, threatened to fight a teacher and forced his players to “roll in goose scat” following a loss in the months leading up to his dismissal as a volunteer coach at Don Bosco Catholic Secondary, according to a report in the Toronto Star.

Traffic:

The south curb lane on Front Street West will be closed from John Street to Simcoe Street and the north curb lane on Bremner Boulevard will be closed from Simcoe Street to the Metro Toronto Convention Centre for Fan Expo. The closure is in effect from 9 a.m. until 9 p.m.

One lane in each direction on Yonge Street will be closed between The Esplanade and Bloor Street during non-rush hours this month for utility repairs.

York Mills Road will also be down to one eastbound and one westbound lane between Lesmill Road and Scarsdale Road due to bridge work lasting till Oct. 27.

Richmond Street will be down to two lanes between Church and Yonge streets until October for a watermain project. The road will also be reduced to one lane between Bay and York streets for the next week.

Events:

Country superstar Jason Aldean performs at the Molson Canadian Amphitheatre in support of his 2012 album ‘Night Train.’ The show gets underway at 7 p.m.

Fan Expo kicks off at the Metro Toronto Convention Centre. This year’s guests include Star Trek‘s William Shatner and Patrick Stewart; Doctor Who’s Matt Smith and Elijah Wood from Lord of the Rings.

The Canadian National Exhibition continues its 18-day run.
