Weather:

A mix of snow, freezing rain and ice pellets could make for a messy commute home this evening. Toronto and the GTA are currently under a special weather statement ahead of a low pressure system that will bring the messy mix of precipitation to the region later this afternoon. According to Environment Canada, snow will begin falling at around noon and then transition to a mix of snow and ice pellets later this afternoon with a risk of freezing rain. About five centimetres of precipitation is expected.

York University teaching assistants, contract faculty and graduate assistants will hold a rally at 11:30 a.m. after overwhelmingly rejecting a contract offer on Monday night. Classes have been suspended at the school until the labour dispute is resolved.

Police are appealing for information after a man knocked a woman to the ground and sexually assaulted her in Scarborough last Friday night. According to police, the man approached the woman from behind in the area of Brimley Road and Ellesmere Road at around 10:45 p.m. and proceeded to knock her to the ground and sexually assault her. The woman then managed to escape and the man fled on foot.

The first of four public meetings being held to solicit input on where to place stations on a potential downtown relief subway line will be held tonight. The meeting is scheduled for the Calvary Church on Pape Avenue north of Danforth Avenue between 7 p.m. and 9 p.m. According to a news release, TTC officials and members of the city’s planning department will be on hand and will be seeking guidance on potential station locations for an area south of Danforth Avenue and east of the Don River.

A University of Toronto professor and former deputy minister of education is expected to plead guilty today to a number of child pornography charges. According to the Canadian Press, lawyer Clayton Ruby has said that Benjamin Levin will plead guilty to some of the seven charges, while others will be withdrawn.

A preliminary hearing for a friend and former driver of Rob Ford accused of using extortion to recover the alleged crack video will continue today at Old City Hall. A judge has placed a publication ban on any evidence presented, which is typical during preliminary hearings.

Sports:

The Toronto Raptors snapped a five-game losing streak on Monday night as they topped the Philadelphia 76ers 104-103 on the road. DeMar DeRozan scored a season-high 35 points while Lou Williams added 21.

The Toronto Maple Leafs will be in Florida to take on the Panthers tonight in their first game since Monday’s trade deadline. Face off is scheduled for 7:30 p.m.
