A nine-year-old boy is in hospital and a 17-year-old has been charged with attempted murder after the younger boy’s throat was cut in St. Thomas Saturday night.

Police were called to a home on Mitchell Street shortly before 11 p.m. When they arrived they discovered the boy badly bleeding with a large cut across his neck.

Paramedics arrived and transported the boy to a hospital in St. Thomas for treatment. He was then transferred to a hospital in London where he underwent emergency surgery. Police say he is now in stable condition.

Police say the two boys knew each other and the attack was not random.

The 17-year-old made an appearance at Weekend Video Bail Court and has been remanded in custody until Tuesday.
