RICHMOND HILL, Ont. -- York Regional Police say a freight train has derailed in Richmond Hill, about 45 minutes north of Toronto.

Police say two cars from a CN freight train came off the rails (at Elgin Mills Rd. near Yonge St.) at about 12:30 p.m.

No one was injured in the derailment and no materials have spilled from the cars.

Police say the train was carrying various types freight but no hazardous materials were onboard and there is no threat to public safety.

Firefighters and paramedics are on scene with CN rail staff putting the cars back on the track.

Elgin Mills between Yonge and Newkirk has been closed for the investigation.
