There were no reported injuries after a massive fire gutted a large home in Brampton early Wednesday morning.

The fire broke out at around 7 a.m. at 10230 Goreway Drive, near Castlemore Road.

When crews arrived on scene, the home was fully engulfed in flames and firefighters were unable to get inside the structure.

As of 9 a.m., the fire was still active.

Police previously said the home appeared to be abandoned but Brampton Fire confirmed that the home is occupied.

Officials say the homeowners are currently away and it appears relatives were looking after the property when the blaze broke out.

"We have no reason to believe anyone was in the home," Deputy Fire Chief Peter Gatto told reporters at the scene.

"It is always a terrible situation when we lose a house right to the ground and a family is involved. I just feel terrible for them."

A neighbour told CTV News that the home had been renovated last year.

The cause of the blaze has not yet been determined.

“Certainly we can't comment on cause and origin right now. We’ve got a significant event that has unfolded," Brampton Fire investigator Gary Jarrett said.

"Currently we are going to notify the Office of the Fire Marshal given the volume and the dollar value involved here."
