The northbound lanes of Allen Road have reopened at Eglinton Avenue following a police investigation into gunfire in the area of Allen Road and Highway 401.

Toronto police said a driver called 911 after seeing gunfire being exchanged between two moving vehicles at around 3:30 p.m.

Multiple shell casings were found between Highway 401 and Eglinton Avenue after police arrived on scene to investigate, Const. Scott Mills told CP24.

Toronto Paramedic Services told CP24 they have not received any calls in connection with the incident and no injuries have been reported so far.

Still, speaking about the incident during an interview with CP24 Wednesday evening, Mayor John Tory called the incident “ridiculous and deranged.”

“This is a ridiculous endangerment of other people in the public,” Tory said, adding he hopes the full weight of law enforcement is brought to bear on the suspects.

While no injuries were reported, the closure caused headaches for drivers during the busy afternoon rush.

Traffic was barred from entering the northbound lanes at both Eglinton and Lawrence avenues.

The lanes were reopened at around 7 p.m.

Police have not given out descriptions of the vehicles or suspects so far.
