Halton police have charged an Oakville cheerleading coach with sexual assault after allegedly engaging in an inappropriate sexual relationship with a 16-year-old girl.

Police say on June 15, a female member of the Cheerforce Wolfpack contacted Halton Regional Police about incidents that occurred at the team’s training centre.

As a result of a sexual assault investigation, the suspect, 25-year-old Jonathan O’Brien, of Grimsby, is charged with sexual assault and sexual exploitation.

Police say the man was located and arrested without incident on June 17 and was released after his first court appearance on Tuesday.
