An Oakville woman has been charged with failure to take reasonable opportunities to avoid a collision in connection with a crash that claimed the life of a Mississauga man.

Halton Regional Police Service said in a news release the woman was making a left turn in a Honda SUV at the intersection of Trafalgar Road and White Oaks Boulevard around 6:10 p.m. on Tuesday, Sept. 9.

At the same time, a 41-year-old man was driving north through the intersection on a Triumph motorcycle.

The two vehicles collided and the motorcyclist was pronounced dead upon arrival at the Oakville Trafalgar Memorial Hospital.

The woman and an 11-year-old passenger in the SUV “were shaken up but not injured,” said police.

Alcohol is not believed to have played a role in the crash.

Sgt. Paul Davies said a “high volume of witnesses” at the scene gave similar accounts of how the collision transpired.

The 48-year-old woman is scheduled to appear in Burlington Provincial Offences Court on Nov. 18. As a matter of policy, Halton police do not release the names of people charged under the Provincial Offences Act.

The family of the male victim has not consented to have his name released, said Davies.

This is the second fatal collision to have occurred in Oakville this year.
