Ontario Provincial Police have filed four charges against a young person following a deadly crash involving a stolen vehicle in Caledon early Tuesday morning.

It happened near Hurontario Street and Highpoint Side Road at around 4:15 a.m.

Police say the driver of a Toyota Sienna minivan was heading northbound on Hurontario Street when they lost control of the vehicle, careened across a median and struck a stationary object.

A female passenger was pronounced dead at the scene while the driver was taken to hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.

Police have since charged the driver with failure to comply with an undertaking, possession of property obtained by crime over $5,000, criminal negligence causing death and dangerous operation of a motor vehicle causing death.

The ages of the female who was killed in the crash and the driver have not been released, though police previously said that both are under 16.

"I can’t release any details. Obviously the investigation is ongoing," Const. Stephanie Hammond told CP24 on Tuesday.

Police say they will not be releasing the names of those involved in the crash at this time as they are still notifying next of kin.

Hurontario Street was closed between Highpoint Side Road and McCannel Avenue for several hours but all lanes have since reopened.

The driver is expected to appear before the Ontario Court of Justice in Orangeville on Friday.
