One man is dead and his brother remains in hospital in serious condition following a double stabbing in Brampton Thursday afternoon.

Police were called to an address on McGraw Drive, near Main Street and Bovaird Drive, at around 1 p.m. where they discovered both victims suffering from stab wounds.

They were transported to Brampton Civic Hospital where one died a short time later.

Nearby Westervelts Corners Public School and St. Cecilia Elementary School were briefly placed under hold-and-secure orders as a precaution.

Peel police initially said one person had been taken into custody in connection with the incident but Const. Thomas Ruttan told CP24 investigators now believe that the person is not connected to the case.

"It appears at this point we have three males that are outstanding and we are doing a search for those males," he said earlier Thursday.

No suspect descriptions have been provided by police.

Ruttan said it appears the victims were targeted.

"I don't think anybody else in the neighbourhood is going to be at risk," he said.
