LANCASTER, Ont. -- One man was killed and a second man suffered just minor injuries after they were hit by a train Monday evening in eastern Ontario.

Stormont Dundas and Glengarry OPP say the two were hit by a Via Rail train just before 8 p.m. near Celtic Lane in Lancaster as they walked along a section of a CN Rail bridge.

One male was pronounced deceased at the scene and the other was taken to hospital with minor injuries.

Police say both men are from the area but their names have not been released.

The rail line was re-opened shortly after 10:30 p.m.
