A 17-year-old student is in custody after he allegedly stabbed a fellow student at a Brampton secondary school on Friday afternoon.

It happened at Saint Edmund Campion Secondary School in the Brisdale Drive and Sandalwood Parkway West area at around 12:30 p.m.

According to police, a 16-year-old student suffered non-life threatening injuries as a result and was transported to a local hospital for treatment.

Saint Edmund Campion Secondary School was initially placed under a lockdown; however the order has since been lifted and officers are working to release students room-by-room.

Police say they are still trying to determine whether there are any additional suspects outstanding.

“At this point we are looking at everything,” Const. George Tudos told CP24 at the scene. “We have a scene area that is cordoned off and we are looking at that for further evidence and we will also be looking at video surveillance and speaking to witnesses so that we can piece together exactly what happened.”

A number of neighbouring schools were under hold-and-secure orders as a precaution, but those orders have since been lifted.
