A man in his 20s was taken to hospital with serious injuries after he was stabbed in the back at a hotel in the downtown core shortly after midnight.

Police say that two groups of people were partying in separate rooms at the Cosmopolitan Hotel near Yonge and Colborne streets when one of them went over to the other room to have a drink.

A verbal confrontation then ensued and police say the man was stabbed as a result.

Two other people were also assaulted and taken to hospital with non-life threatening injuries.

According to paramedics, the stabbing victim suffered two puncture wounds.

Police say the suspects in the incidents fled the scene and are outstanding.
