The operator of a TTC streetcar that struck and killed an elderly man on St. Clair Avenue in March has been charged with careless driving and failing to yield to a pedestrian.

The 27-year-old man, who has not been identified, was operating the streetcar eastbound on St. Clair Avenue near Arlington Avenue on March 20 when he collided with the 80-year-old victim, who was attempting to cross the street.

The victim was rushed to hospital with life-threatening injuries but was pronounced dead some time later.
