Ontario Provincial Police are investigating the death of a four-year-old boy who died after a tractor tire fell on him in a rural southern Ontario community Saturday.
Police received a call about the incident in the Township of Southgate, about 65 kilometres northwest of Orangeville, around 11:35 a.m. Saturday.
OPP said officers were told a large tractor tire had fallen over, pinning the boy, at an agricultural residence on Highway 89.
He was rushed to a hospital where he was pronounced dead.
The OPP Criminal Investigation Branch is now looking into the boy’s death. The unit is called in to handle any death investigation involving a child under five years of age.
The Farm Safety Board has also been notified of the boy’s death.
An autopsy is set to be performed in Hamilton on Sunday.
