Although the final figures have yet to be tallied, organizers with the Canadian National Exhibition say early numbers suggest that attendance at this year’s event will be the highest on record since 2004.

In a news release issued Tuesday, CNE organizers said that an estimated 1.43 million visitors attended the midway this year, an increase of about 10 per cent from last year.

“The EX is an end-of-summer Toronto tradition that keeps getting better with each year. We offered incredible shows, stand-out attractions, and very popular bandshell concerts which were packed to capacity every night,” CNE General Manager Virginia Ludy said in a written statement released Tuesday.

“The CNE remains one of the most value-packed entertainment events in the city, and people are recognizing this and responding positively. Combined with great weather and accessibility by transit to our grounds, visitors near and far have come out to enjoy the fair.”

The official attendance total is expected to be released in the next few weeks.
