A 50-year-old Oshawa man has been charged after he allegedly threatened a Justice of the Peace and a prosecutor who presided over his traffic court appearance on Wednesday.

Durham Regional Police say they were called to a legal clinic on Simcoe Street North at 12:20 p.m.

A suspect allegedly entered the clinic and threatened the justice of the peace and the prosecutor who were present at his traffic court hearing earlier in the day.

He fled the scene before police arrived and extra security was dispatched to the Whitby Provincial Offences Court while officers searched for him.

He was arrested at his home at 5:50 p.m. on Wednesday without incident.

A suspect identified as Randy Elford was charged with uttering threats, engaging in conduct to impede performance of justice duties and failure to comply with probation.

He was held in custody pending a bail hearing.
