A 22-year-old Oshawa man has been arrested after he allegedly threatened to kill police officers in numerous online posts.

Durham Regional Police say they were notified on Monday that a video containing a threat to kill police officers had been uploaded to Facebook.

Investigators then determined that the man responsible for the video lived in Oshawa and located numerous similar threats on Facebook and YouTube, police say.

A search warrant was subsequently executed at the suspect’s house, leading to the seizure of knives, a machete and a sword.

Thomas Helmle is charged with uttering threats and possession of weapons dangerous.

Anyone with information is asked to contact Det. Const. Grigoriou of the Central East Division Criminal Investigative Bureau at 1 (888) 579-1520, ext. 2737.
