A 25-year-old man is facing a number of arson and weapons-related charges in connection with a string of fires set in Oshawa over the weekend.

According to police, the charges stem from eight separate fires that occurred between 3:40 and 5:10 a.m. Saturday.

The fires included a car on Simcoe Street, multiple structures – including a garage – at Oshawa Central Collegiate Institute, and bush fires on Nassau Street and Marquette Avenue.

A suspect was arrested as officers investigated the fire on Marquette Avenue, police said Tuesday. The man was carrying fire-starting materials and four knives at the time of his arrest.

Kyle Roberts, of Oshawa, faces charges including arson with disregard to human life, four counts of arson causing property damage, and possession of a weapon dangerous to the public peace.
