OTTAWA -- The city of Ottawa is retiring the route number of a bus involved in a devastating collision with a Via Rail trail almost a year ago.
OC Transpo Route 76 will run its last trip on Aug. 29.
The city says it's being retired out of respect for the families of those who died in the horrific crash.
A double-decker city bus on Route 76 plowed through a flashing level crossing and into a passing Via Rail train on Sept. 18 last year, killing six people and injuring at least 30 others.
The collision sheared off the front of the bus and knocked the Via locomotive and one of four passenger cars off the tracks.
The Transportation Safety Board is still investigating the cause of the crash.
A new route -- Route 72 -- will begin Sept. 2 and will offer the same express services from the suburb of Barrhaven to the downtown core.
