One man is dead following a two-alarm fire at a highrise apartment building in Parkdale, a representative with Toronto Fire Services has confirmed.

Crews responded to the building on Dunn Avenue, south of Queen Street, shortly after 8 p.m.

The deceased, believed to be in his 50s, was transported to hospital without vital signs, where he later died, Toronto Paramedic Services said.

Three other patients – two females and a male - have been transported to hospital suffering from smoke inhalation.

The man, believed to be in his 50s, was transported to hospital with life-threatening injuries. One woman was transported in serious condition, paramedics said.

"We’ve allowed the tenants to return to their apartments other than the 11th floor,” Toronto Fire Service Division Commander Len Stadler told CP24 at the scene.

Crews continue to investigate the cause of the fire.

The Ontario Fire Marshal's office has been called in.
