Toronto police are looking for a suspect after a man and a woman were attacked with a "large knife" early Thursday morning.

Police told CP24 the suspect was armed with an edged weapon when the victims - a 48-year-old man and 39-year-old woman - were attacked as they walked along Eglinton Avenue, just east of Dufferin Street, at about 3 a.m.

During a confrontation, the victims and the suspect ended up on the road, where the man was struck in the head with the weapon, police said in a news release.

Emergency personnel arrived after the suspect ran off. The man was taken to hospital.

There was some traffic in the area at the time of the attack, and investigators believe passing motorists may have witnessed the incident.
