Toronto police say they are concerned for the safety of a woman who is in need of medical attention after she was assaulted.

Officers were called to an apartment building, located near Yonge Street and Finch Avenue, at around 4 a.m. on Monday after recieving a call from a security guard about a woman with a serious cut to the side of her face.

Det. Brian Wookey said when police arrived, the woman had already fled the building.

Wookey said he "strongly believes" the woman sustained the injury during an assault.

Investigators are now asking the public to help them identify the woman because they believe she is in need of medical treatment. They believe she may be afraid to reach out for help.

The victim is described as Asian, 20 to 30 years old, with long black hair. She was last seen wearing light-coloured pants, a black shirt and a white jacket.

Anyone with information is asked to contact police at 416-808-3200 or Crime Stoppers anonymously at 416-222-TIPS (8477).
