ELLIOT LAKE, Ont. -- Provincial police have charged a 16-year-old girl in connection with a cyber threat investigation at a high school in Elliot Lake, Ont.

Police say the investigation was related to ongoing threats received through social media that were directed towards students at Elliot Lake Secondary School.

They say the investigation led them to the arrest of an Elliot Lake girl.

The unidentified girl faces charges of uttering threats, criminal harassment and public mischief.

She is being held in custody pending a bail hearing in Sault Ste. Marie on Monday.

Police say the "complex and ongoing" investigation involved the OPP and the Sault Ste. Marie Police Service.
