There will be an increased police presence in Chinatown over the next seven weeks as officers crack down on vandalism, shoplifting, panhandling and other public disorder issues in the neighbourhood.

Project Blue Ram began on Monday and is being run in coordination with the Chinatown Business Improvement Area.

During the project, there will be an increased police presence in the neighbourhood and officers will be visiting local businesses and reviewing crime prevention strategies as well as reminding residents of the perils of leaving their vehicles unlocked.

According to a press release, Chinatown is a “very safe neighbourhood” but issues such as vandalism, theft from autos, public intoxication and shoplifting are a concern to residents.

Acting Superintendent Glenn Holt and Chinatown Business Improvement Area Chair Tony Yu will hold a news conference at 11 a.m. to discuss Project Blue Ram.
