Toronto police set off a series of controlled explosions in High Park Saturday after two suspicious packages were found along a bike path off of Parkside Drive.

Officers set up a command post near Spring Road and Parkside Drive and cordoned off the southeast corner of the park Saturday morning after the packages were found.

Police intermittently shut down a number of roads in the area as a precaution as the Emergency Task Force detonated the packages throughout the day. The closures affected traffic on roads around the park, including The Queensway, Parkside Drive, Lake Shore Boulevard West, the Gardiner Expressway and area rail lines.

Around 9:30 p.m. police said the packages had been dealt with and proven safe. Area roads were also cleared by that point.

Police did not say what the packages contained.

High Park has been especially busy in recent weeks with many tourists and citizens flocking to the park to observe the annual blooming of the park’s cherry blossoms.
