Police have issued a public appeal for surveillance camera footage after a 39-year-old mother was killed in a hit-and-run near Dovercourt Road over the weekend.

Police are asking all business owners along Bloor Street to contact them if they have any video surveillance equipment recording the areas around their businesses.

The appeal comes hours after police confirmed that they have recovered the car that was involved in the hit-and-run that resulted in the death of Nelisa Damota on Sunday night.

Const. Clint Stibbe said the vehicle, an older white Mercedes Benz S-Class with damage to its left side, was found at a home on Dominion Road near Highway 427 and Brown's Line, but the driver has not yet been found.

Stibbe said a lawyer representing the registered owner of the vehicle told police where the car could be found. Stibbe said the owner has provided minimal information to police through his lawyer.

Damota was struck by a westbound vehicle on Bloor Street as she crossed the street to go to a bank at around 9 p.m. Sunday.

The first impact put her in the path of a second vehicle traveling eastbound on Bloor Street which also struck her.

The driver of the first vehicle sped off, while the second driver remained at the scene.

Damota was rushed to a hospital trauma centre via emergency run and was pronounced dead shortly after.

A mother of one and stepmother of two children, Damota worked as a business administrator for a real estate company.

Police are asking anyone with information about the incident to contact investigators.
