Peel Regional Police have identified a suspect arrested yesterday in the death and dismemberment of Hua Guang Liu, a 41-year-old single mother of three.

Police said Monday afternoon that the suspect – 40-year-old Chun Qi Jian of Scarborough – was Liu’s ex-boyfriend.

He has now been charged with second-degree murder in connection with Liu’s death.

Jiang, a construction worker, was not previously known to police.

Police cordon off townhouse

His townhouse off Brimley Road in Scarborough was cordoned off Monday morning as a team of Peel forensic investigators swept the home. Three Toronto police vehicles also attended the scene.

Neighbours said the man who lives there keeps to himself and usually has the curtains drawn.

Police emphasized Monday they have not yet recovered all of Liu’s remains and are still looking for information from the public.

Gruesome discoveries

Body parts belonging to Liu, 41, were found days after she was reported missing by another man identified as her boyfriend Aug. 10. The single mom of three children was last seen at the now-defunct Scarborough health spa she owned, police said previously.

On Aug. 15, hikers found a severed foot in the Credit River in Hewick Meadows Park in Mississauga, sparking a large-scale search of the river and park.

Police later found Liu's head and hands in the river before the search moved to the West Highland Creek in Scarborough, where two calves, a thigh and arm were found.

Liu owned Forget-Me-Not Health Care, a spa at 2466 Eglinton Ave. E.
