Toronto police have identified the man whose body was discovered burned in a North York park fire pit earlier this month.

The discovery was made in Northwood Park, in the Sheppard Avenue West and Keele Street area, by a passerby at around 10 a.m. on April 9.

In a release Monday afternoon, police identified the victim as 29-year-old Toronto resident Julio Cesar Soto.

He was last seen in the Assiniboine and Sentinel roads area the evening of April 8.

Last week, Toronto police Det.-Sgt. Kevin Leahy told CP24 that investigators believe the victim was murdered and was burned in an attempt to conceal his identity.

“If people in the area happened to see a bonfire happening Friday night or early Saturday morning we want them to give us a call, especially if they noticed any vehicles or people in the park,” he said.

Leahy told CP24 at the time that it was too early to say whether the man was killed in the park or elsewhere.

A cause of death was not provided by police in Monday’s release.
