One person has been taken into custody after a car slammed into a hydro pole in the city’s west end early Thursday morning, police said.

Police said the car collided with a hydro pole near the intersection of Jane and Annette streets just after 5 a.m. Hydro wires fixed to the pole fell onto the roadway.

Residents in the area tell CP24 they dragged the driver out of the vehicle and saw he sustained injuries to his ankle.

Jane Street between Annette Street and St. Marks Road was closed as a Toronto Hydro crew attempted to raise the pole and re-attach wires.

The male driver of the vehicle was taken to St. Joseph’s Hospital. Police tweeted that one person has been taken into custody as a result of an investigation into the collision.
