One woman is dead and a man remains in hospital with grave injuries after police were called to an east end home Wednesday afternoon.

The woman, who has not been identified, was found at an address on Ladykirk Avenue near Coxwell Avenue and Gerrard Street at around 12:30 p.m. after police responded to a 911 call.

A man was also found at the address and taken to hospital with "grave injuries", according to police.

While homicide investigators are on scene, the woman’s death has not been deemed a homicide.

“We won’t know until forensics are completed and a post-mortem is done tomorrow,” Det. Sgt. Wayne Banks told reporters at the scene. “It is suspicious. We are assisting 55–division with this investigation.”

Both the man and the woman were initially reported to be without vital signs

"Once all the forensics have been collected and the pathology report comes in we will have a better answer (as to the cause)," Banks said. "There was obvious signs of trauma but we have to discover how that got there."

Banks said both the man and the woman are in their 70s, though he did not elaborate on their relationship.

He said a post-mortem examination of the woman will be completed Thursday.
