The hunt is on for suspects after a number of armed assailants broke into an Ajax residence and tied up a married couple inside Thursday night.

According to Durham Regional Police, three suspects wearing construction vests forced their way inside the home on Morden Crescent near Rossland Road and Church Street at around 7:30 p.m.

Once inside, the suspects tied up the husband and wife and placed them in the basement.

The husband then managed to break free and alert a neighbour, who called police.

It is not immediately clear what if anything was taken.

Police say the suspects used both a U-Haul type van with no signage and a white cube van during the alleged crime.

There is no description of the suspects at this point.

The victims did not require medical treatment.
