A suspect wanted in connection with a sexual assault at Bloor-Yonge Station last week is believed to be the same man accused of sexually assaulting girls in the midtown area over the past several weeks, police say.

On Sept. 16, a woman was transferring from the Line 1 platform to the Line 2 platform at Bloor-Yonge Station at around 8:25 p.m. As she walked down the stairs she was sexually assaulted, police said.

A witness confronted a man following the alleged assault, but the man fled the scene quickly and disappeared into a crowd of people exiting the subway cars, police said.

Police told CTV Toronto Monday that they now believe the same man is involved in a series of sex assaults along Yonge Street that began on Sept. 2.

“We have very good images of this man and we hope that somebody can identify him,” Const. Caroline de Kloet said. “These two cases with the two different pictures we do believe is the same individual.”

Investigators said the man waits in the Yonge Street and Eglinton Avenue area until it becomes busy with pedestrian traffic. He then approaches girls between 13 and 16 years of age before disappearing into the crowd.

The assaults took place at different times of day, according to de Kloet, with some occurring at 8 a.m., 12:30 p.m. and 8 p.m.

The suspect is described as white, between 25 and 35 years old, about five-foot-seven with a medium build and brown hair. In a security camera image captured on Sept. 16, he was seen wearing a pink dress shirt, dark trousers and black dress shoes.

Police are concerned that there could be other victims who have not yet come forward.
