One person is being sought after fleeing police and then running away from the scene of a two-vehicle crash in Vaughan overnight.

Ontario Provincial Police officers tried to stop the car near Highway 400 and Teston Road, but the driver refused to stop and drove off, said spokesman Sgt. Dave Woodford.

The officer tried to follow the car but lost sight of it, Woodford said.

A short time later, the same BMW was involved in a crash with a second vehicle at Rutherford Road and Weston Road at about midnight.

In the collision, the second vehicle went over a sidewalk and crashed into the patio of a restaurant. The driver of that vehicle suffered non-life-threatening injuries.

The driver of the BMW hopped out and ran away from the scene, leaving an injured passenger behind. The passenger suffered non-life-threatening injuries, Woodford said.

A canine unit was brought in to search for the driver, but he or she managed to elude police.
