A second serious head-on collision on a stretch of road in East Gwillimbury Thursday afternoon has sent two York police officers to hospital with serious injuries.

York Regional Police Const. Blair McQuillan says that the two media officers were travelling westbound in an unmarked vehicle on Mt. Albert Road when they collided with an eastbound pickup truck near Kennedy Road at around 3:30 p.m.

Both officers were transported to hospital via air ambulance with serious, but non-life threatening injuries, Blair says.

The officers have been identified as Sgt. Kelly Bachoo and Const. Andy Pattenden.

The driver of the pickup truck sustained minor injuries.

The Special Investigations Unit is now investigating.

The crash happened west of Highway 48 shortly before 1 p.m.
